Our course teaches you what you need to know about lighting, stage/event management, visions systems and theatre sound.</p> <p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>Learn your craft from the best</strong></p> <p style="text-align:justify;">In this very hands-on course, you will have extensive training in all technical aspects of the theatre industry. This includes production, theatre lighting, theatre sound, stage and event management, vision systems and set and props design and construction.</p> <p style="text-align:justify;">Throughout the year, you will collaborate with other student cohorts in developing a number of large-scale theatre productions. These productions are either group devised, installations or from chosen scripts.</p> <p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>Industry connections and resources</strong></p> <p style="text-align:justify;">At Melbourne Polytechnic you will learn in a state-of-the-art training venue. The David Williamson Theatre is a 120 seat facility with industry standard lighting rig, lighting and sound equipment, flying systems, set and prop construction area and stage storage spaces.</p> <p style="text-align:justify;">You will also have access to a smaller theatre training venue and a large movement room. You will be timetabled into Mac and PC labs for marketing and production requirements and resources classes.</p> <p style="text-align:justify;">The Performing Arts Department has strong industry connections with small and large-scale theatre companies such as Arts Centre Melbourne, La Mama, Carlton Courthouse, Red Stitch Theatre Company, Black Hole Theatre Company and Impro Melbourne. You will also work closely with the National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA).</p> <p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>Employment outcomes</strong></p> <p style="text-align:justify;">As part of the course and because you will be working on sets and design, you will be given the opportunity to gain an Elevated Work Platform Licence, which will be an asset when seeking employment in the related industry.</p> <p style="text-align:justify;">The course will train you to be a multi-skilled technical theatre worker with extensive skills in theatre lighting, theatre sound, stage and event management, vision systems and set and prop-making.</p> <p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>Assessment</strong></p> <p style="text-align:justify;">Undertaken by a combination of:</p> <p style="text-align:justify;"> </p> <ul><li>Face-to-face interaction,</li> <li>Project work and industry-based learning.</li> </ul><p><strong>Recognition of Prior Learning</strong></p> <p> </p> <p style="text-align:justify;">You can seek RPL where your work or qualifications of an advanced and related nature have been undertaken.
